Why has the Huang He (Yellow River) been called China's Sorrow? It was the site of massive burials. Volcanic activity caused massive destruction. It was the source of water for irrigation. Periodic flooding of the river caused a great deal of death and destruction.

Periodic flooding of the river caused a great deal of death and destruction.
Using what I already know, it was called China's Sorrow because farmers tried to use it as a source of water for an irrigation system, but many failed. They could only control the secondary branches of the river. But when the river over flooded, it washed away crops and houses that caused great deals of death and destruction.
