What were the main factors in both the North and South for the abandonment of Reconstruction?
South:
-southern democrats opposing new governments and calling it "black supremacy"
-poor whites could not pay taxes that were raised to fund education and other necessities
-resulting in them opposing Republican party
-Southern white supremacists couldn't accept that black ppl help political positions and had some equal rights
-violence to overthrow republican party
North:
-decided that black ppl had to fend for themselves w/o government interference
-racism erupted and distracted people from Reconstruction efforts
-economic depression
-Northerners' new goal was to replace black ppl's positions in office
-Bargain of 1877 finalized end of Reconstruction and eliminated democrats in the south
-which give South great power in which they did not deserve
