Shannon was home when the mail came that Saturday, and she waved to the postal carrier through the window. Then, she practically danced out to the mailbox. Something told her this would be the day she’d hear if the performing arts high school had accepted her. Shannon wanted to sing and dance more than anything, and this school could be the answer to her dreams. She opened the latch of the old metal mailbox and pulled out the contents. There, right on top, was an envelope addressed to Shannon Brown. She tore it open, her heart pounding, and scanned the first lines: “Dear Shannon, we are delighted to inform you. . . .” Shannon threw the rest of the mail in the air and jumped up and down, yelling, “I knew it!!” Then she gathered up the mail and raced inside to break the news to her parents.

The first part of this passage evokes what sort of tone?
