From a five kingdom classification system, it became a three domain classification system. Prokaryotes were separated into different domains because archaea merely resembled only bacteria morphologically but they are unicellular and have no organelles. Archaeans are also known to exist in extreme environmental conditions, which makes them different from Eubacteria.
