Based on what you learned in this unit, draw the areas in North America explored by each of these European nations. Also mark the part of North America that was unexplored at the time. I didn't make a drawing, but download a blank map of North America, and then used Microsoft Paint to color the areas that those three european continentes had explored by the time.

Spain: Had explored Mexico, Cuba, The Florida Peninsula, and more or less southern half of the Western United States, including modern day California, Southern Nevada, Airzona, New Mexico and Texas.

France: French fur traders where great early explorers in North America. They mostly settled in Quebec, alongside the Saint Lawrence River, and explored sorrounding region. They also explored the Midwest, following the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, from the Great Lakes, to New Orleans, a city which the French founded.

England: the english settlers and explorers mostly concentrated on the Eastern United States and modern-day Ontario.

France, England, and Spain explored North America at the time of European imperialism and established colonies in that region.

Based on this, we can show where each country has established itself as follows:

  • France: They settled around the Saint Lawrence River, where, in addition to exploring the riches of the place, they established a profitable fur trade with the mediation of the natives. Spain prioritized regions near lakes, probably to exploit soil fertility in these regions. There were also French colonies near the Missouri River.

  • England: Occupied most of the region, concentrating mainly in the northeast and southeast of the region, where it established several colonies, with different types of exploration.

  • Spain: concentrated in the south of North America, occupying the place where Mexico, the Florida Peninsula, New Mexico, and Texas are located.
