(I LIVE IN MIDWEST)
Does it get cold where you live? If it does, your family probably uses a nonrenewable energy source to heat your home. The most common of these energy resources include coal, natural gas, oil, or petroleum.

Did you know that the supply of nonrenewable resources is limited? In all likelihood, if we continue to use these resources at the current rate, there will not be enough left for people to use in the future.

As the population of the world increases, more demand is placed on the world's resources. A frequent theme that runs through the study of geography is resource protection.

Because the supply of nonrenewable resources is limited, alternatives are being considered. One solution that keeps reappearing is to increase the use of renewable, or "clean," energy sources. Some of these alternatives include solar, geothermal, and wind energy.

For this reason, many power companies are conducting research on the use of renewable energy sources. Some are even using renewable resources right now.

In this project, you will learn about the resources that are used to heat our homes and alternatives to their use.
Objectives

List the resource or resources being used to heat homes in your area.
Explain what power companies in your area are doing to reduce dependence on nonrenewable energy sources.
Discuss whether or not power companies in your area are doing enough to reduce our dependence on nonrenewable energy sources.
